Until I started NooA, I worked for many years as director of innovation and development at NKI Nettstudier and professor of online education at the Norwegian School of Information Technology (NITH) in Norway. I'm President of the European Distance and E-Learning Network (EDEN) until 2013, and I was on the European Association for Distance Learning (EADL) R&D committee until November 2010.

In the school year 2009-2010, I worked for Universidade Aberta in Portugal. From 1999 to 2005, I was appointed Adjunct Professor, at the Athabasca University, Centre for Distance Education in Canada. I'm regional editor for IRRODL (The International Review of Research in Open and Distance Learning),  EURODL (The European Journal of Open, Distance and E-Learning) and the Asian Journal of Distance Education. I'm also on the Editorial Board of seminar.net.

I have worked with online education since 1986, and I had a central role when we designed the EKKO LMS system and established the NKI Internet College in 1987. This college was probably the first European online college, and few (if any) online colleges in the world has been longer in continouos operation. I have published many books, reports and articles about the topic. Many of my publications and presentations are available via my blog nettstudier.blogspot.com. My book Online Education and Learning Management Systems is available via www.studymentor.com.

I was the founder of The Distance Education Online Symposium (DEOS), when I worked with the American Center for the Study of Distance Education at The Pennsylvania State University. . My dissertation was on "Teaching Techniques for Computer-mediated Communication". This research included a survey of 150 online teachers in 30 countries, and I got my Doctorate of Education from Penn State  in 1998.

If you are thinking of including elements of online training or courses in your company then I would be interested in getting in touch about possible collaboration. It could also be that you already have some online courses running but think that they could be run more effectively. NooA is a new learning management system based on Moodle which makes it possible to integrate the latest developments in effective learning. NooA offers personalized learning paths which also allows trainees to benefit from the social interaction which is so critical in achieving specific skills.

I have worked with elearning for many years since arriving in Denmark from the UK in 1993 and met Moodle for the first time in 2002. Moodle’s basic approach, based on social learning principles, immediately appealed to me. Since then I have experienced exemplary and not so exemplary use of Moodle, both as a course participant and as a teacher or administrator. So I believe that I know the most significant factors leading to its effective use. Basically this revolves around using social interaction tools to promote discussion.

Knowledge transfer is also of critical importance in a work environment. The line between courses, training and knowledge transfer is becoming more and more blurred. The challenge therefore lies in how to combine knowledge transfer and learning into a coherent whole. My experience shows that the newest mobile technologies, together with the new insights we have on effective learning, means that we are now uniquely well-placed to increase skill levels in an integrated way through the use of digital tools. An important aspect of knowledge transfer is that it should be ‘just in time’ and that is probably one of the biggest challenges when transforming a traditional course with its fixed dates and rhythms. But even this can now be overcome by using individual learning paths while still ensuring that there are good opportunities for discussion with fellow learners.

Here in Denmark I have used NooA’s predecessor both as a teacher and administrator. I have used it for language learning, teacher training and as a project coordination tool. So if you have a learning goal then we should talk about what NooA can offer you and your organization.

After more than 20 years of experience in teaching German as a foreign language to Spanish and Catalan students in the area of Barcelona, I became more and more interested in the possibilities of the Internet for teaching and learning. I took a master course in e-learning and techno-pedagogical design and started designing and implementing different kinds of courses, from blended teacher training workshops to fully virtual language courses. Soon I understood that online communication and collaboration as key elements for flexible and effective learning, the application of state of the art pedagogical approaches and the integration of an ever increasing number of very useful Web-tools help to shift from individualized learning routines in front of a computer screen towards engaging and motivating experiences in effective learning communities. After years of experimenting with different learning management systems, a large number of Web 2.0 tools and a variety of teaching and learning contexts I can positively say that thoroughly designed online courses that into account the possibilities and the limitations of virtuality and make a sound use of pedagogical approaches can lead to meaningful and effective learning.

NooA provides the expertise and the technological framework for a successful online-implementation of your courses. I would be happy to help you developing your online course projects and accompany you through the process of implementation and delivery on our MOODLE platform.

My professional career began in the 90s when I got my degree in Business Management at the Johann Wolfgang von Goethe University in Frankfurt, Germany, with specialization in Informatics applied to Management. For more than 10 years I worked as a freelancer ICT Trainer for several institutions, mainly at the Volkshochschule Frankfurt.

At the turn of the century I got more and more interested in eLearning and accomplished a specialization as a Tele-Tutor and Tele-Coach at the University of Paderborn, Germany. Since then I am fascinated by the interaction between pedagogy and technology, learning and teaching mediated through technologies, namely the Web 2.0.

Over the last years I have worked with a number of Portuguese and Brazilian universities, but also with organizations supplying vocational education and training, specially implementing (e)learning in workplace. The range of functions assumed has varied from consulting, administration of e-Learning platforms, instructional design and e-moderation (following the Gilly Salmon’s 5-Phases Model).

NooA is based on the Learning Management System Moodle that I´ve been using since 2005. As a member of the Portuguese and Brazilian Moodle Community, I also co-organized the two Moodle-Meetings in 2007 and 2008 in Portugal. In my point of view Moodle is a flexible platform which allows the design of courses taking into account different pedagogical strategies.

It is always a challenge and a pleasure to create from scratch new e-/b-learning projects and courses and to go along with tutoring or moderating them.
